Terms of Service
Effective: March 30, 2026
Welcome to Crib. These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Crib mobile application and website at nucrib.com (together, the "Service"). By creating an account or using Crib, you agree to these Terms.
What Crib Is
Crib is a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects university students looking to sublet their housing with other verified students. We provide the platform. We are not a party to any subletting arrangement between users.
Eligibility
- You must be at least 17 years old.
- You must have a valid university email address (.edu or equivalent institutional domain).
- You must verify your email through our one-time passcode process.
- You may only create one account.
Your Account
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your account. Do not share your login credentials or let others use your account. You are responsible for all activity under your account.
Your profile information, including display name, photo, university, and bio, is visible to other Crib users. Represent yourself accurately.
Posting a Listing
If you list a space on Crib, you agree that:
- You have the legal right to sublet the space (check your lease and local laws).
- Your listing is accurate and not misleading, including photos, description, location, and pricing.
- You will respond to booking requests within a reasonable time (requests expire after 48 hours).
- You will not discriminate against users based on race, gender, religion, national origin, disability, sexual orientation, or any other protected characteristic.
Booking & Subletting
Crib facilitates connections between hosts and seekers. When a booking is accepted, the arrangement is between the two users. Crib does not:
- Guarantee the condition, safety, or legality of any listed space.
- Process payments or handle deposits. Financial arrangements are between users.
- Serve as a party to any lease, sublease, or rental agreement.
- Provide insurance or liability coverage.
Messaging
All communication about listings should happen through Crib's in-app messaging. This protects both parties and gives us a record if a dispute arises. Do not use messages to harass, spam, or solicit users for unrelated purposes.
Reviews
After a booking period ends, both the host and seeker can leave a review. Reviews are double-blind: neither party can see the other's review until both have submitted. Once published, reviews cannot be edited or deleted by users.
Reviews must be:
- Honest and based on your actual experience
- Respectful, with no personal attacks, discriminatory language, or threats
- About the subletting experience specifically
Prohibited Conduct
You agree not to:
- Provide false or misleading information in your profile or listings
- Create multiple accounts or use another person's account
- Harass, threaten, or intimidate other users
- Post fraudulent listings or misrepresent a space
- Use Crib for any purpose other than student subletting
- Attempt to circumvent verification requirements
- Scrape, crawl, or use automated tools to access the service
- Violate our Community Guidelines
Content & Intellectual Property
You retain ownership of content you post (photos, descriptions, reviews). By posting on Crib, you grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide license to display that content within the Service. We do not use your content for advertising or sell it to third parties.
The Crib name, logo, and design are our intellectual property. You may not use our branding without written permission.
Account Suspension & Termination
We may suspend or terminate your account if you violate these Terms or our Community Guidelines. We'll try to notify you first, but reserve the right to act immediately for serious violations (fraud, safety threats, harassment).
You can delete your own account at any time from within the app. Account deletion is permanent and removes all your data. See our Account Deletion page for details.
Disclaimers
Crib is provided "as is" without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any particular listing is safe, legal, or as described. Use your own judgment when arranging sublets with other users.
Limitation of Liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Crib and its operators shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, including but not limited to financial loss, property damage, or personal injury resulting from subletting arrangements facilitated through Crib.
Dispute Resolution
If you have a dispute with another user, we encourage you to first try to resolve it directly. You can also report the issue through the app or contact us at support@nucrib.com.
Any legal disputes between you and Crib will be governed by the laws of the State of Illinois and resolved in the courts of Cook County, Illinois.
Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the app. Continued use of Crib after changes take effect constitutes your acceptance of the updated Terms.
